Inner Awareness & Clear Communication

Inner awareness includes being aware of what you want to convey. The spirit of your communication is aligned when your intention mirrors how you actually feel. In Pilates and other forms of dance the extension or movement begins – not with the limb – but in the core. This is the same with communication. The more congruent the communication is within the core of your being, the more compelling it is.

The creative process is a process that requires vulnerability. When you are feeling ambivalence, confusion, fear, reluctance, annoyance or anger, you can track down what is causing these emotions. With this insight you can take care of the inner parts that are preventing your alignment with your professional or creative expression. When your feelings and actions follow naturally from each other, you can be confident in the communication of your message.

When you don’t have tools for self-reflection you tend to continue to repeat unhealthy patterns of behavior. Avoidance, making choices based on the past, and negative self talk are examples of unhelpful behavior.

Your thoughts and emotions are impacted by your present and your past. Your personal history (culture, family of origin, education, and experiences) is part of what makes you who you are, unless you have done immense work to clear your being of these threads of identity and meaning. Your background has influenced your view of yourself and your expectations of the world around you. Your experience is an enormous part of what shapes the presence or absence of trust, confidence, flexibility, enthusiasm, and curiosity with which you approach the world.

The following questions can help you identify what feelings may be contributing to self-limiting behavior.
